Meet the Conference host!
Hi, I'm Monica Packer, a normal mom whose work on progress outside of perfectionism began because she found herself resenting the life she always wanted.
My work began personally before it did professionally going back 10 years ago. As a then-mom-of-3, I hit several breaking points: I was unfulfilled, maxed out, and resentful of the life I had always wanted. And why? Because I had been dead-last on my own list for years.
In my pursuit of being a “good” mom, I thought I had to resume the position as the sacrificial lamb for my family. I didn’t realize the damage I was doing not just to myself, but to my family, until its effects were staring us all in the face. I knew I had to find a new way to put myself on the list—my own growth, self-care, interests—and all outside the all-or-nothing pendulum swing of perfectionism that had actually kept me on the sidelines for years.
Leaning in to my own desire for “more” not only changed my life—it changed my entire family’s. My life doesn’t look all that much different on the outside: I’m still the primary caretaker for our now-5 kids, money is still tight, and many of my children still have special needs. But, my life feels completely different. Why? Because Mom is herself.
My personal work turned professional when I began a podcast, About Progress, to document my early experimentation with progress and shared others’ stories doing the same. As the podcast grew in size and scope, I became a certified coach to better help women make “more” out of their lives. My podcast has now amassed millions of downloads and I have taught thousands of women through my courses and coaching to do something and grow in ways that stick, all outside of perfectionism.
This conference was born out of my own experience as a mom who loved her family deeply but still found herself feeling depleted, resentful, and disconnected from herself. What I've learned is that when moms have more in their lives, they have more to give—not because they're sacrificing less, but because they're finally including themselves in the equation.
A little about me: I am a former middle school teacher turned podcaster of About Progress. I am currently writing a book on flexible habits formation for women, Sticky Habits, set to publish September 8th(!). I love to hike and to read, am sourdough obsessed, and am learning through my mistakes every single day in everything from parenting to gardening.
